Finland is a country in northern Europe, in the eastern part of the Scandinavian peninsula.

It's a country of white nights and northern lights, endless forests and hundreds of thousands of blue lakes, countless picturesque islands, and the vast snowy expanses of Lapland, known to many as the home of Santa Claus.

Finland has a high standard of living, safety, an absence of corruption and bureaucracy, an excellent environment, and one of the best education and social-welfare systems. Thanks to Finnish efforts to protect the environment, lakes, rivers and coastal waters remain exceptionally clean. 71% of Finland is covered by forest, one of the highest proportions in the world.

For international students, Finland is one of the best places to pursue higher education.

Finnish universities consistently rank highly in world academic rankings. Students rate highly the quality of teaching, the safe and friendly environment, and study and living conditions.

One key feature of higher education in Finland is its focus on student independence and personal responsibility. This is achieved through a combination of lectures, group work, independent study, and practical projects and assignments. Emphasis is placed on developing students' critical thinking and practical skills.

A large portion of study hours is devoted to independent study, during which students explore certain topics, conduct research, and complete assignments set by lecturers. Group projects are common. Doing practical work with other students helps develop teamwork skills, gives students the chance to show leadership, and teaches responsibility for a shared outcome.

Finnish higher education is known for its research-oriented approach and involving students in research projects from their very first year.

Finnish universities are known for their international environment; students and faculty from around the world study and work here, creating a friendly, multicultural setting where students gain invaluable experience of international communication and understanding of national characteristics.
